Top Ten Great Loves

What IS a great love, anyway? In this post, it could mean a tragic love or a sweet love.. so I guess it should really just be Top Ten Interesting Loves- but that sounds less cool.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

1) The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender

18166936

This book is flooded with love! One thing that’s great about it is that it follows the viewpoints of three generations of women, all scorched horribly in some way by love. It’s a beautiful and unusual book, and I’m looking forward to getting the review up!

2) The Summoning

2800905

This one makes the list because – I think – it was the first book I ever read with love in it. I absolutely loved the way love worked in this book: the characters started out hating each other. Derick is just NOT your typical male hunk and I adored that about him. (And no, this isn’t a case of a strange and mysterious man with a dark past. It’s seriously unique.)

3) Cress

13206828

I’m not going to spoil anything!! (But it’s great. Read it.)

4) We Never Asked for Wings

24041443

You know a book’s good when you bring it up in conversation months after first reading it. This one addressed the conflict between a woman’s true love and the available love (sorta.. best way I can explain it) and there was a whole “I’m not waiting to be your backup” portion that I loved.

5) Fairest

22489107

Sorry about the double-Lunar-Chronicles, but I feel like I can do this because they’re two entirely different types of love. The love in Cress was so cute and sweet, but the love in Fairest is twisted and desperate. It’s also undying if you’re looking at who’s loving who.

6) The Winner’s Curse

16069030

I love the idea of love between a master and servant- it’s something I haven’t read a whole lot of. What really made this book was how the love between the two shaped the decisions that weren’t connected to each other.

7) White Cat

6087756

In a world where a worker can force someone to love someone else, I love the idea of the main characters trying to sort out their actual feelings. (Or.. character. The other one doesn’t knooooow) This was such a good book. Gotta reread it soon to get to Black Heart.

8) Unwind

764347

This one’s in here solely because of how Connor reacted when told to write a letter to his parents. Sometimes the love between child and parent can overcome even the most disgusting of deeds.

Aaaaaaaand, that’s eight! But when do I ever make it to ten, anyways? Looking forward to this week’s TTTs!

Top Ten Books I’ll Never Get Rid Of

This week’s a freebee at Top Ten Tuesday, and I thought I’d make a nod to all of the books that will forever be cluttering my shelves! I know the organizers out there love to tidy and donate and give away books, but I have a dream of someday having a gigantic bookshelf of books that I adore. Here’s ten that contribute to that goal!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

1) Poison

c2813_poison_4cc_z

Perhaps my very first favorite book… and one no one else has ever seemed to have heard of!

2) Redeeming Love

11422

Maybe it’s a bit crazy to have this one on the list.. because I haven’t read it yet! But I just know I’ll love it, and I’ll never lose it.

3) The Summoning

2800905

4) The Graveyard Book

2213661

I’ve probably re-read those two books more than any other book I own. I guess there’s something about books you loved as a child.

5) The Scorpio Races

10626594

There were times this book made my heart stop. One of my all-time favorites!

6) The Lunar Chronicles

13206828

My second-favorite series of all time.

7) The Chaos Walking Trilogy

Monsters of Men

My first-favorite series!

8) Future Winds

24871458

I actually own several different copies of this book. One’s signed, and one donated to Save a Bunny!

9) Little Brother

954674

This one was given to me by an ex.. but eh. When you love a book you love a book.

10) Twilight

41865

Would it be uncool to say I loved this book before it was cool? Yes, I know we all hate the hype surrounding it, but I was the first of my friends to have heard of it. My sister’s friend let her borrow it, and I started reading it when she was done, but she had to return it before I was finished. I searched around TIRELESSLY to find it! I put my elementary school librarian through heck so that I could finish this damn book. So it’s earned itself a permanent spot on my bookshelf.

Loving this prompt and looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with! Freebee weeks are some of my favorites!

Top Ten Characters Who Are Book Nerds

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that comes up with new prompts every week. This week’s prompt is Top Ten Book Nerds in Books!

Actually, I generally hate this in a book. Especially high-school books. Often times, the characters just prattle on about how their lives are like the lives of characters in books, how they love books, how they carry around books.. and then books are nowhere to be seen anywhere other than the character intro. I hate this! Like, “we just want you to like our character.. obviously you like reading if you’re reading this so THEY like reading, too!” And I don’t know if it’s me, but normally the shy, quirky bookworms are dumb as dirt. I’m sorry, but if you really loved books, you’d have a brain. Anyone else notice this trend?

But I digress! On occasion, having a book in a book is done right. Some such occasions are:

1) Gansey from The Raven Boys

17675462

If anyone ever doth love a book in a book, it was Gansey. That’s why this one was first. Let me share a quote that I loved from the book that emphasizes this.

Blue accepted the journal and flipped it open. The journal didn’t immediately choose a page to open to; it was so well-worn and well-stuffed that every page claimed seniority. It finally split down the middle, obeying gravity instead of use.

There are a lot of good quotes about this book. I chose the shortest because I know you’re probably visiting multiple blogs today, but if you want to see more, I did a Thursday Quotables feature on it here.  My review of The Raven Boys is here.

And I’m jealous of Gansey. Someday I hope to find a book that I love so much I wear it to shreds reading it. Ideas, anyone?

Top Ten Tuesday- Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read

This week’s TTT is PERFECT for me! After a library trip, a friend loaning me a ton of books, and a visit to Barnes and Noble where I spent waay too much money, I’ll actually be reading some hyped books soon! I have enough books now to write my very first book haul, and I’ll be doing that within the next few days, but until then, here’s Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read!

toptentuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly link-up in the community hosted by The Broke and The Bookish where they provide a prompt and other lovers of listmaking join in on it with their own top ten list. Feel free to check them out!

Top Ten Tuesday! Romances for People that Don’t Read Romance

toptentuesday2

Aaaand I’m back with Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s prompt is a freebee, but I’ve decided to go with The Broke and The Bookish’s prompt for it. It’s a good one! Especially since I’ve heard that Romance is one of the least favorite genres among bloggers. And I’d have to say, I agree, for the most part. But something about romance in ANOTHER genre, like a cherry on top, always appeals to me- especially when it’s well done. Here are my Top Three picks! (Yes, I’m cheating, but to be fair I’m only putting books I absolutely loved in this post. Quality over quantity, people.)

For those who love sci-fi:

1) Cress by Marissa Meyer

13206828

Cress is on the top of the list for a reason: it is amazing in so many ways, with so many great moments; I loved this book. But one of my favorite things was the romance between Cress and Captain Thorne, which was less like a romance and more like a fangirl’s obsession and a player’s flirting at the beginning, that really bloomed into something significant. I have so many excerpts in mind that I could insert for this post, but I wouldn’t want to spoil anything! How can I say this book NEEDS to be read in the way that I feel it? But that’s impossible. Just know that it’s amazing. Scarlet, the second in this series also had a good romance side-plot, but Cress takes the cake.
